There was some super contrived stuff here, particularly in the manufactured relationship drama and the deus ex machina, that almost had me rating it lower again, but ultimately I enjoyed getting out of Atlanta for a while and seeing the world and I did stay up late to finish it, so. Sometimes the right book at the right time makes all the difference.

so i'm not going to rate this book, because i only closely read the first 100ish pages. after that, i started skimming bc the lorelei thing was making me mad #iykyk. i think this book is where i finally understood the term 'sunk cost fallacy.' i should've DNF'ed, but i had enjoyed the first five books (and actually have the rest of the series checked out from the library), so i thought i should push myself through this. i felt really bored with the new setting, with way too many new characters, and the shift of focus from KATE's adventures to THE PACK's adventures. i understand this series has strong found family vibes, but i felt that everything that made kate such a badass (her skill, independence, strong-will) was absent in this book.

omg. curran. he had me SO Fucked up during this book. i have never wanted a FMC to dump a MMC more. like.... the ending was fine, they made up, whatever. but he should've groveled?? i do like that this was a major character turning point for him (hopefully) and he stops keeping things from kate. but she forgave him way too quickly.

also, i didn't like how kate was handling most of the pack's responsibilities on this trip. some of the action scenes felt like they were there just so there was some plot in the book. overall i found this book boring and too dramatic compared to the earlier books. i hated the setting - i want to go back to atlanta. i want to go back to reading about kate's adventures and her fight against her father... alone <3

i will be reading book 7, but if the same thing happens, then i will be DNFing the series.

Kate Daniels #6
Adult Urban Fantasy.
Re-read.
It may not be my favorite Kate book in the series but was still good. It has some main story and character progression. There are some fun moments. There are some action moments and there are some heartfelt moments.
Kate and Curran are two stubborn people that are used to going it solo. They are both trying to find a way to let others in while staying who they are. They are learning if they can accept one another, faults and all.
Hugh. We learn so much more about him.
Enjoyable read. It is necessary to read the series in order to understand what is going on with the characters and the main storyline being weaved through the series.

This book had a somewhat different feel to it. The beginning seemed slower than the other books, but maybe it just seemed like it because they were preparing to travel.
Man this book was an emotional mess all around. Kate of course got the worse of it and she couldn’t do anything about it. Until she finally had enough and there she had nothing to lose anymore. She felt betrayed my Curran and was heartbroken but what surprised me the most, was that the pack still had her back. That just shows how far she has come and they know that she is loyal to the pack no matter what the cost.

I fully recognize that at this point it would take a lot for me to *not* enjoy time spent with Kate Daniels.
