This was exceptionally well written. The political nature of the book aside, Cheney is clear, concise, and well-spoken throughout.

It's hard to believe after all of this recent history, the Republican party continues to be the party of Trump and he potentially could be our next and last President. While Liz Cheney recognized the danger of how close we were to losing our Democracy and ultimately paid the price- I think she failed to acknowledge how the Republican party attracted and grew the Cult of Trump. He didn't happen in a vacuum. As she clearly outlines, there were many Republicans who still hold power and took active steps to undermine the democratic process.
I am glad that Liz Cheney continues to recognize and actively work to educate against candidates who would further undermine democracy. I have watched as small local elections and school boards have had candidates that parrot Trump and stoke the fears of citizens and win elections. There is an organized plan at work and has been for several years (possibly decades). I am reminded of the Lyndon Johnson quote..
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.”

A well- written and serious book of immense value, it should be a required book in civic education. It describes in nonpartisan terms the events of 1/6 , the 1/6 Commission’s work, and underscores that the US is not led by autocrats but by the rule of law and the US Constitution. You cannot be loyal to Trump and the US Constitution as Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy/constitution/republic.

She has officially earned my respect. The way she stands for her values is admirable. She is a true republican and its amazing. The way she outlines all the events up to and during the 6 January riots and the investigation afterwards is great. Really showcases the terrible terrible times that this was and how people don't take it seriously. It was a great read, and loved the use of voiceclips in the audiobook.
