Ideologically, I do not agree with Liz Cheney. However, in the substance of this book, we're aligned. This was very well written and forceful, although I don't know if I learned anything new, per se. I watched every J6 hearing front to back and a lot of the book was rehashing what the hearing did and what was said. There was some behind the scenes new information, but otherwise this book is really for people who didn't want to watch every one or read the report (which I've also done) and hear about the information in a more narrative format. I highly recommend the audiobook because Cheney includes audio receipts whenever possible.

There was so much good information in here about Jan 6th and the committee that formed after but the narration was so dry.

5/5. Democrats/liberals: give this a chance. This isn't the book you might think it would be.
When I visited one of my local bookshops on Indie Bookstore Day 2024, I found a signed copy of this book. I thought this was odd, because this particular shop is generally very liberal in their views, so why would they have signed copies of something by Liz Cheney? Then I saw it was about January 6th and I immediately knew 1) why this shop had it, and 2) that I needed to buy and read it as soon as possible. And I'm glad I did, because this book is worthy of the 4.62 rating it currently has on Goodreads.
I do not like Donald Trump. I think he is not only un-American, but also anti-American. His actions on January 6th as well as those of his supporters who rioted in Washington DC (and agree with it all) disgust me. Even if these actions were done by people I agreed with politically, I would immediately think they were unfit for office. Liz Cheney's book further solidifies my views.
This is an excellent account of the actions before, during, and after January 6th by someone who was there and had a massive hand in the hearings and investigations that followed. I expected to see some "Republican bias" in this book, and while some is definitely here, none of it is in an unfair manner or demeaning to Democrats/others who may disagree with Republicans. In fact, Cheney makes it a point to bring up often the many instances where those on the opposite side of the aisle agreed with her or showed solidarity. In an age of such political divisiveness, I was so happy to see this, as well as to hear Cheney essentially admit that the current Republican party is not the one that she initially grew up with and joined (as a former Republican myself, I am in full agreement with her; even though I don't even agree with their views on most things anymore, it's still easy to recognize that it's far different now compared to when I originally registered for that party).
The book itself honestly isn't the most well-written thing in the world, but truthfully, it doesn't have to be. That is not the point the author is trying to make. What she does is present an authentic mic drop to Donald Trump and all of the crazy Americans who still think he did nothing wrong. This should be required reading for anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to learn the truth about the heinous crimes of January 6th committed by the DC rioters and the insecure man that led them.

A must read for every American in my opinion. If you read the January 6th report, you know the level of detail that 45's treason was described...but Ms. Cheney didn't expound into opinion. Here she does and she doesn't hold back on the danger we are in right now. IF you love our country, please read this book.
