1 extra star for the recipes section at the end.
Overall I'd give this 3 stars as an interesting survey of several movements and groups resisting corporate control of our food supply worldwide. Learning about the people doing the work is inspiring, though sadly the authors themselves don't add a whole lot to the discussion. I assume the Lappés are affecting naivete in their writing for the sake of reaching centrist readers- that doesn't make reading about how we need to "evolve capitalism" much less grating, though. Still, this is 2003 and they occasionally do push a bit beyond their usual couched language when talking about injustices inherent to global capitalism. Plus they go out of their way to dunk on Thomas Friedman multiple times so I've gotta give them that.

This is my before-bed book at the moment. The writing is artless, but the 5 basic points are right-on, and worth reading about.
