The Julian Chapter

R.J. Palacio

4.1 AVERAGE

Interesting premise to start a book from. Julian is a normal kid who becomes a bully when his place in the hierarchy at school changes. Julian struggles to confront personal fears along with his culpability in the destruction of his childhood frienships. Good read for tweens who have dealt with the effects of bullying or been a bully themselves.

we finally see julian's side in the "wonder" story.
i fell in love with julian's grandmother story and history.

I learned a thing or two from this one alone.

It was nice to get Julian's point of view after reading Wonder. It always seemed to me like there was something more to Julian than what Wonder had to offer. Also, it is crazy to imagine the things our children have to face and learn to grow through these days. I think adults have as much to learn, if not more, from the Wonder Stories.

I liked the idea of reading from Julian's perspective, and I feel that R.J. Palacio really portrayed the viewpoint of a bully. Bullies don't feel sorry, they aren't they type of people who will be overcome with remorse once someone tells them off for bullying. I liked how he finally got around to feeling remorse and Grandemere was such a great character. I really liked the ending, "Tu marches toujours le front haut".

Liked it as much as I did Wonder. We all dislike Julian, but his story reminds us that there are many sides to consider and you never know another's circumstances.

Oh man. What a great short story!!

Great short story.
