I saw this book had some bad reviews on goodreads and honestly, I think this is a case of "don't yuck someone's yum"
I personally LOVED this book for the exact reason people were dissing it - the Dom/sub relationship. Him asking for her terms in the same way you'd ask for a safeword before you jump into a scene, the consent and begging šŸ„µ Needless to say, I'm giving it a good rating. 4.5/5 with the .5 taken off just because the plot dropped a bit.
If you're a fan of Dom/sub, begging, and praise I implore you to read Black Ties and White Lies by Kat Singleton. Pro tip- it gets reeaally good at Chapter 30 šŸ˜˜

Well for starters I'm not really sure what to think of this book. Even though it was pretty straightforward I felt like it was quite odd. I mean the premise was good but I feel as there was too much happening at once and without any context. So it kind of left you wondering how you even got there.
Even though the book has 58 chapters I do think that it was very fast paced. It didn't really give you time to digest what has happening at the time. Everything seemed rushed and there wasn't that much development in the plot. I do think that that it wasn't a bad book though. I strongly believe that some would really enjoy it. But it's not really my style.
Also the with the MMC, i'm not sure if the things he says would make you cringe or make you swoon. I feel like the book had so much potential and like it does show us that love knows no bounds. But it's just wayyyy out there.
Like the MMC, Beckham Sinclair, bought the fricking company she worked at because she was ignoring his calls.

An HEA worth reading for!

I honestly had a really hard time liking Beckā€¦ I know a lot of people insta-love his alphahole-ness, but a lot of the way he went about things was rubbing me the wrong way (probably Katā€™s intention tbh). Meanwhile Margo was incredibly relatable in her messiness and insecurities. But the 5āœØ HEA made this a solid read and Iā€™m excited for book 2 releasing soon!!

DNF 70% - I tried with this one, y'all, I really tried.

I should have trusted my instincts when I DNF'd it back during its release week at around 4%. I knew it wasn't going to be good, but decided to give it another go. And since I suffered through the majority of it, I'm counting this stupid thing as a book read because I earned these pages.

The incredibly condensed version of my thoughts is that this reads like 50 Shades of Grey fanfic meshed with Delena from The Vampire Diaries. While that might be good in theory (who doesn't like lighthearted billionaire fantasies?), in practice it's awkward and needed SEVERE help in the editing department. If the author repeated herself once, she did it a thousand times, sometimes in the SAME PARAGRAPHS. I have literal highlights where she repeats the same inner thoughts or "information" twice in the same paragraph, just restating herself for no reason. That was the least of my concerns once I got further into the story, but it made my eye twitch so bad I had to mention it.

There wasn't any chemistry between the characters, it's very hot and cold and manufactured "enemies to lovers" that doesn't really feel like it's worth reading (their first kiss is around 30% in and it's just boring, super quick for what I thought would be a slow burn?). Then the multiple chapters of smut made me yawn, an actual yawn left my body and I just flipped through until they were finished in bed because it was cringe-y and awkward. Then we get to the "big reveal" about the two main characters and how they originally fell for each other and I just got the ick so bad I had to stop. I draw a hard line at it and that's on me.

I don't know - it seems like it's a mixed bag with the reviews. I'll chalk this up as another book like The Spanish Love Deception where it just wasn't for me. I'm just ready to not have this taking up space in my damn kindle app.

Margo Moretti & Beckham Sinclair.

What a couple, what a book. Itā€™s been a while since Iā€™ve been this enamored with a book that I havenā€™t been able to put it down. When I wasnā€™t reading, I was thinking about this book. While I was reading, I never wanted it to end. This is my first book by Kat and itā€™s safe to say, Iā€™m a fan.

More about the book itself though:

The opening of the book is our FMC Margo working for a lower level security company in LA, when her ex-boyfriends older brother shows up to the office wanting speak with her about something. He confesses that he bought the company sheā€™s working for just for the chance to talk to her about this grand scheme he needs her help with. Basically,
he needs a fake fiancĆ© to placate the board of investors at his company who are upset that heā€™s recently been called out in the media for being a ā€œplayboyā€ & that heā€™s getting bad press to begin with (mostly to convince them heā€™s settled down by playing his fake fiancĆ© for a year)

Despite their original reasoning for joining forces, the connection between them has been brewing for longer than theyā€™re both willing to admit. Itā€™s easy to see from even their first interactions that Margo is incredibly responsive to Beck, in all ways. And though he likes to act like every bit of the stoic billionaire, Beck is just as affected by her. The tension between these two is palpable, and had me on the edge of my proverbial seat until they finally gave in.

And lord when that rubber band finally snappedā€¦ šŸ„µ

I love an angsty give-in to what the MCā€™s have been denying themselves of for pretty much half the book. It makes the pay off that. much. better.

And believe me when I say, itā€™s good. like 4/5 šŸŒ¶ļø good. Beck has a dirty mouth, and loves to taunt Margo every chance he gets. Theyā€™re both very vocal šŸ˜…

Outside of the bedroom, their banter is witty and comical at times. I love these two characters and Iā€™m thankful to Kat for sharing them with us!

READ. THIS. BOOK.
