I ended up enjoying this, although I didn’t think it was amazing. But it was a fun read and I liked the characters. I am going straight into One Gomden Summer with high hopes.

I did not enjoy this, and it was hard to read.

It's told in dual timelines-current day-where everything is shattered, but we don't know why, and flashbacks-to when this couple were kids, and how the relationship grows.

The young chapters were much more enjoyable. These kids were cute, and had much better conversation than in the current timeline.

Over time things start to fracture.

In the current day, the FMC is sleeping her way through mediocrity, has a job she isn't passionate about and generally is pretty unhappy. You see, the MMC was her one. And clearly something happened that broke them apart.

Both the MCs are what i would call somewhat toxic, and unfaithful. They both do things that feel wrong through most of this book.

Charlie-the older brother of the MMC, does a lot of really strange, borderline flirty stuff constantly, knowing all along that Sam (his brother) likes the FMC.

It all had me pretty ticked off. Feeling icky and anguished through most of the story. Who does that to his brother?

Also, the writing was way too detailed. Every outfit the FMC wears is detailed from underwear to shoes, including hair and makeup. I think i remember a showering scene where every piece of clothing is inventoried as she disrobes. It's completely useless information. Wastes tons of time. I think we all understand that are underwear come off before a shower, right? It drops movie titles, and book titles constantly. I came close to DNFing multiple times, and i really only kept reading to find out the big event that caused this huge break. Turns out it was worse than i ever expected.

I still feel for all these characters. What happens is just heartbreaking. It didn't need to be this way, and that made it worse.

It does have a happy ending. But I'm not sure i buy it.

I might read Charlies book, because i have heard good things about it, but i don't recommend this one.

i saw potential with this book but the plot twist, confrontation, and ending felt so rushed and a little unrealistic? it felt like Percy really fcked Sam over and he was so quick to forgive her and try to make her feel better like what he did was as bad as what she did :/

The writing was fantastic, but I the twist is outside the bounds of most romance premises. It wasn’t a feel good ending. Part of me was expecting to find out this was Charlie’s love story… I don’t see how Sam could’ve recovered his relationship with Persephone, even after having years to forgive, without destroying his relationship with his brother. There was still hurt just beneath the surface when Persephone came clean. I am surprised there wasn’t more animosity between Sam and Charlie when Charlie picked on him about Persephone as adults. Charlie had so much judgement for how Sam chose to approach his relationship with Persephone, even though he gladly participated in the catalyst for their end.
