I promised a review, so here we go. Every Summer After is a beautiful story about love, friendship, regret, and all the messy things in between.
Ohhh guys, I loved this book so much!! From the very first page, I somehow knew I was going to love it, and I was right.
The writing style was very smooth and addictive. I flew through the pages without anything pulling me out of the story. The dual timeline worked perfectly too, it makes sure you never get bored.
I adored Percy and Sam, they were so cute together. Okay, Sam in his college years wasn't exactly cool, but it made sense. But I think Charlie totally stole my heart. Funny, protective, and very handsome (at least in my head haha).
The side characters were just as great. Sue, Chantal, Delilah. They all brought something sweet and fun to the story. Tbh, with Delilah, I kept waiting for something cruel to happen.
And like another reviewer said: this book made me feel nostalgic for a past I never had. I laughed, I got emotional, I felt everything. It gave me a thousand feelings.
Maybe there was one trope I didn’t totally vibe with (iykyk), but even that added something interesting to the plot.
I could write a whole book about how much I loved this, but you just need to read it yourself.
"I devoted hours to studying the subtle movement of emotions across his features. They were like rain that traveled from the far shore and across the water, unassuming until it was right there, pelting the cottage windows.
I memorized his shimmers of mischief, the distant thunder of his jealousy, and the whitecaps of his ecstasy. I knew Sam Florek."

i did genuinely enjoy this book. its not tht serious, so i dont take it as so.
in the genre, i think this book balances well. not too raunchy, felt like i could find a reason for all the stuff that happened (even if i didnt agree with the actions if the characters), and it was an easy read.
i didnt think they should have ended up together, there was no one i was rooting for. but the parenting was written with love and care. and i think death was written about with care, though the actions around it were a little distasteful.
though ill acknowledge the author seemed aware of the nuance of the plot points she chose to go with, even though i wasn't a fan.

Everyone was right...this story was so amazing. I absolutely loved the structure of this book - flashing back between present day and then longer chapters from the past. I'm glad the bulk of the story was told from when they were teens and their relationship was initially developing and friends. I thought it was great we got to see so much of the foundation of their connection. I also lovveedd the setting! I grew up near several lakes and vacationing at them, so it felt cozy and familiar to me. I actually started reading this at my family's cottage on the lake! The perfect vibes for this loving and heartbreaking story.
