A very stripped back and slower paced read, could only read a little bit at a time, but the loved the theme of animal companionship and everything she did for them.
Ending definitely came as a shock and had me sobbing

Haushofer's "The Wall" follows a woman isolated in the Austrian Alps by an invisible barrier, forced to create a new life with only animals as companions. Her exquisite descriptions of nature and the emotional bonds with her animal companions are the novel's greatest strength, bringing the isolated mountain setting vividly to life. While the storytelling is mostly measured and thoughtful, the abrupt ending feels rushed compared to the careful pacing of the rest of this lovely meditation on solitude, survival, and animal companionship.

Enjoyed the prose and the evolution/revelations of the main character. especially the change of her self perception of woman to human and the recognition of the emptiness of her life before the wall. However, I didn’t love the detailed minutia of her survival and put it down for several weeks in the middle.
