Took me almost a month. I really couldn't get into this book. I'm not saying it is an issue with the book; it just didn't mesh with me.

Hundreds and hundreds of pages about a bunch of people stumbling around in the same patch of woods with a couple rapes tossed in. The book is far from bad but I just couldn't connect with it, or its characters, and spent my time pleading with it to just get to the goddamn point already!

I really liked the magic system, it is particular. The world setting was nice and engaging and the book was quite easy and quick to read.
I understood where the main part of the plot was going from an early stage, but it did not spoil the reading, and some minor unexpected twists made it even more interesting.
I'll definitely move on to the following book in the series :)

Been a long time fan of The Dresden Files so figured I should give Butcher's other works a shot and I loved it. Characters were different, fleshed out, and keeps me wanting to learn more about them. I thought I was going to predict how things would turn out here and there but was pleasantly surprised when things resolved differently.
Lots of action and fight scenes. Our heroes seem to stumble from the frying pan into the fire throughout the entire book. A fast-paced read with a good magic system and engaging characters.
A fun, fast-paced fantasy read (albeit generic). Nothing too special or genre-breaking in my opinion - I found most of the plot points to be embarrassingly predictable and many of the characters to be disappointingly flat. If you're just looking for a fun, simplistic fantasy/adventure, pick this one up! I probably won't bother finishing the rest of the series, but may give Jim Butcher another try with his Dresden Files series!
The villains are caricatures. It features "savages" that "eat human" flesh. The furies are cool. Ultimately, entertaining.
