6/14/20: Re reading and it held up. Took us awhile because we read on long car trips only but still a good (albeit lighter weight) fantasy. I would venture to say this is perfect for readers like me who have a hard time with the hardcore fantasy stuff, or maybe just need an “intro to what fantasy can be.”

5/31/15: Non-stop adventure with well-written characters. I recommend for anyone who likes fantasy. I'll definitely continue with this series. Happy I finished it!

5/25/15: At the urging of a good friend, I am giving this another try. I reread the 100 pages I read before and so far I am liking it way better than the first time. Maybe I just needed to be in a better place? I'll update as I make more progress, but I think I may actually finish it this time.

3/24/15: I love the Dresden Files. Love. Them. I don't get this at all and really don't want to waste my time with it. I only read 100 pages, but I think that's a fair volume to allow it to hook me and I wasn't hooked.

For reference in a Fantasy setting, I loved the whole Game of Thrones series and had no problem being hooked easily. Mr. Butcher hooked me easily with Dresden as well. This one didn't do it for me.

Fast paced

This book is good for anyone who likes a lot of action, well developed magic system and world building. I'm already reading book two.

Not what I expected. But it’s definitely a great start of a series.

If I have a complaint, I would whine about how complex Butcher's political intrigues can be, and how they make my head hurt when I'm reading sometimes.

But take an aspirin and get to it, because this was a great book. I think it was probably even better than the few Dresden's I've read.

I really enjoyed this book. It has been on my TBR for a couple years. My husband has been trying to get me to read it and I finally decided to give it a shot and wow, I’m so upset at myself for not starting sooner.
Jim butcher is one of my favorite authors and I love the way that he wrote. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good adventure & likes battle scenes. THERE IS ALSO SOME ROMANCE!!! Omg how could I forget to mention there is romance; def pulled my heart strings once & made me cry. 😭😭😭 can’t wait to continue this series!

The book was great in principle. Great magic systems, great characters, interesting plots. I just expected better from the mastermind behind Harry Dresden.

Not bad, though I felt the ending battle definitely rescued this book. Well-written, though I personally had some trouble following in places, though that is typical for me.

I'm tempted to say that this novel reads like the author lost a bet and had to write a book combining roman society with Pokemon but that would be doing this a disservice. I really enjoyed this. It was fun, interesting, and fast paced with good character development and an interesting world.

7/10

Ich habe es heute leider abgebrochen :/
