I have to admit that there were times in this book that I really didn't like Apollo. Then he'd open his mouth and explain or show his devotion (eventually) and I'd change my mind. I guess that's a sign of a good author. I like how the story lines have come together. It didn't feel tedious or overwhelming. Overall, I very much enjoyed this continuation of this amazing series.

Mini-Review:

Well, most of the subplot was taken care of in this book. I like how all of the couples end up getting together and forming friendships with each other. The relationship should have been developed better than it was. There were more than 500+ pages to do it. I am a sucker for romance, kids and all that jazz, so it was good. Not the best. Yet, it was fun & sweet.

This is a typical KA book but parallel universe style.
This is my least favourite of this series.
Apollo for me challenges the most faithful die hard fans. He brings alternate Ilsa to his world where her version of Apollo is an abusive thug of a husband.
He is pinning for his dead wife, his version of Ilsa and he is surprised that as she looks identical that there are problems, for him and his children.
He does many things wrong, he does redeem himself but for me he is not very likeable.
It is strongly connected to the previous books in the series, although each couple have a book, the main enemy fight runs as a thread through the series and comes to a conclusion in this book.
My response is always Don t get me started on Apollo.

**4-1/2 Stars** (because nothing in this series compares to Lahn and Golden Dynasty!)

Now this is the Kristen Ashley I know and love! After the disappointment of Jagged, it was awesome to get back to the wonderfully descriptive K.A. PP (pre publisher). The characters were fully developed, the scenes were rich and inviting, the storyline was fleshed out, the hero was alpha like only K.A. can write, the heroine was vulnerable yet strong, and the romance was squeeze-your-legs-together HOT! It was also great to see all the other couples from the Fantasyland series.

These are the K.A. books that I could read all day, every day. If you're a Kristen Ashley fan and you haven't read this series, you're missing out!

prose improved in this book. reduced use of "awesome" and "cool". lead character finally taking more control of her manner of speaking to communicate. but I did not love the characters as much. they didnt feel as fantastic as the others - though who could be better than the Golden Queen?
adventurous challenging dark emotional tense medium-paced

Broken Dove begins with Apollo bringing Ilsa of the parallel universe to his world. His wife was once her twin before she died. Now Ilsa who knew nothing about a parallel uiiverse and who was also married to Apollo's twin (who is not a good man) has no idea what to make of the new world she's been dropped into. Not only that once brought there she is then left alone with out Apollo to help her along the way. So she does what she can to make the most of it. Along this journey Ilsa (well Maddie now) has to learn a whole lot about the new world, but she also makes a lot of new friends. And then eventually she even gets to know Apollo, who is not at all who she thought he was at first. Besides the romance between these two there is also the continuation of the evilness from previous books. So we get to see the previous characters all come together to fight the big bad evil that has been coming after them for so long.

I really loved this book. It is one of my favorites of this series!! I loved Apollo and Maddie together. Even though I often thought Apollo was a complete jerk to her. I still liked him. And I loved that we got to see more of the previous characters as well. And as always the writing rocked! To me this book also felt sort of like the end of the series. Even though there is still one more book, which I look forward to, this one seemed like the end. But I am so very grateful that there's going to be another book, and it's one I'm super excited about!

Very good book!

I don't know if it's the dreadful reading slump's fault or the book's fault or a combination of the two, but I had a hard time finishing this one.

It's the very long story of Ilsa and Apollo, who, like the other couples of the series, come from two different worlds, but unlike the other couples, they were both married to their twins in their own worlds. Apollo was happily married and devastated to have lost his beloved wife, while Ilsa is on the run from her awful, abusive husband.

Apollo saves Ilsa and transports her to his world, where he basically dumps her to the care of his men when he realizes she really isn't his wife. When Ilsa finally joins him, he realizes he made a mistake and decides he wants her after all, and after some token resistance from her, the two fall into bed and start a relationship. And that's where my first issue comes in.

They supposedly look exactly like their twins, yet somehow both of them manage to overcome this fact and get into a relationship with each other, despite how unhealthy that is. I just couldn't ship them and found myself either shipping
SpoilerDerek, Apollo's best friend who was left to care for her and bring her to Apollo's home, and ended up falling for her in the process
, or afterwards when Apollo was too much of an asshole,
SpoilerI just wanted her to leave him and stop being such a doormat
. Also, where was the groveling? He needed to do a lot more groveling to get the forgiveness she so easily gave him and it just didn't do it for me.

I won't even mention the war backstory, which I don't think I could have cared less about if I'd tried. The fact that
Spoilerall the bad guys of the series, including bad witches, an evil twin and Ilsa's asshole ex, find each other and end up planning their combined nefarious plots together
, only succeeded in making me roll my eyes that much harder.

In the end everyone is happy, quite fertile, and living their own happily ever after.
I just didn't particularly care.

The series continues with Noc and surprisingly, Franca's story next in Midnight Soul.

I don't know why I really like this series. The concept of this is amazing.
