Reread 10/15 - I still liked this one a lot, although Apollo did tick me off a few times. I felt like Overall, I did really like the series a lot. It is one of my favorites. A sweet Fantasy, fairy tailed world with adventure and romance with awesome characters!
Original review - 4/15 - This was a really good one. I got mad at Apollo a couple of times for his behavior and had a hard time forgiving how he acted towards Maddie (even though she forgave him easily). But overall a good story and great writing. I really like this series!

he should have told her, what he thought to himself several times, that his love for Maddie was beyond anything he had experienced with Ilsa and was beyond anything in the world. I felt she would have felt more secure in herself if she knew that.Original review - 4/15 - This was a really good one. Mammoth, huge, grand! And I don’t mean it in the word count sense. Broken Dove is E.P.I.C.!
The book starts off with an adrenalin pumping scary scene where other world Ilsa is in a precarious and even life threatening situation only to be saved, whisked off to Fantasyland world and almost immediately discarded by Apollo. A killing shot to the heart was delivered and it was dispensed by Apollo himself.
But don’t despair, Ilsa was left in a Snow White-ish and the eight hunks on horseback Kristen Ashley style scenario where she is affectionately re-christened as Maddie by her hot guards and companions, where she not only forms bonds of friendship she also gets to know, understand and adjust to this new world, while feeling free and being able to take stock and make a new plan for her life.
When Apollo and Maddie reunite, it is clear to him she is not his departed Ilsa, coupled with his alpha male possessive nature that will not share, add a little of Valentine mischief and some adela tee, sparks start flying and an different and even deeper love starts developing. But as with all relationships, there are obstacles to be overcome, situations in which Captain Kirk and Spock like wisdom is needed. Enter even more wonderful and side characters and Ashley comedy.
I know I’m being funny, but there’s no way I can’t be because in this book, Kristen Ashley gives us incredible characters who are humorous, loveable and sage, who feel deep friendship, loyalty, hurt and love, with a plot so big, badies so mean that the two main characters or even the supporting ones aren’t enough . In this book we get the whole enchilada. All the hunks, their incredible partners, cute babies and devoted friends are included.
In the end we know “that love is priceless, love is worth every battle fought, every wound endured... love is everything.” and we also get the promise of more!

“Even Captain Kirk had chats with Spock and Bones.”

Pure awesomeness! I loved it. I love when I am a few books in to a KA series, it feels like a family reunion every time!! This had the perfect amount of funny, angst, smut and sweet.
2nd Read Review: I haven't read this book in 6 years, and the book I read then, and the book I read just now did not feel like the same to me. I can't figure out if the book got revised or my memory is failing me.
In my first read I felt Apollo was unredeemable. I felt he put his dead wife before Maddie. I felt he was cruel to Maddie, especially after the treatment she got from his twin in her world. Treatment he knew of and still he was cruel to her. I felt very strongly about how badly he treated her, and yet after doing a re-read just now, I didn't see that much cruelty that I could have sworn was in the book the first time.
I really wish I knew if this book has been revised because if it hasn't, then I'm kind of blown away by how this affected me so differently from the first time. Apollo had his mean moments, but this time he wasn't as cruel as I remembered. His affection for her seemed to be more pronounced. He even admits to being happier with Maddie than he was with his deceased wife. I really don't remember that ever happening. Because of this, I did change my rating and gave it an extra star. It still doesn't compare to the other books in the series but obviously it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it was.
What I do remember being the same is how much I swooned over Dax Lahn and his appearance in this book. Man, why can't authors write more heroes like him?
1st Read Review: I'm loving this series but I did not like this book. The Hero was an A-whole and I didn't feel like he redeemed himself by the end. Sadly I don't feel like I could have skipped it since it reveals more to the overall story in the series as a whole.
For me the Hero can make or break a book. I just couldn't get on board with Apollo's treatment of Maddie. She was unjustly dumped on throughout the whole book and I just got angrier the more I read. Add in that the dead wife might as well have been living, she was referred to so much in this book that I don't even think a chapter went by with out her being brought up.
This just isn't how I want to see a heroine treated by the hero. She deserved better and I ended up hating Apollo by the end of the book.
***Narrator review: Tillie Hooper did an outstanding job and the only reason I could stand continuing the book to the end. I highly recommend the audio version.
