It’s wild that the cousins war and Elizabeth of York’s place in it wasn’t interesting enough and Philippa Gregory had to throw in some sexual crimes to spice it up. Rape and incest aside, this story’s plot felt like circling the drain. It was a cycle of pretenders, paranoia, and Elizabeth claiming ignorance. The characterization in the last quarter or so became really inconsistent and I couldn’t tell anyone’s motives. I also wonder if the author had to hit a certain word count because there were so many instances of characters repeating things over and over. Just not the best book.

The writing was good and the story was meticulously researched, but Henry was such a paranoid dickhead and the constant threats from "the boy" got pretty repetitive.
Graphic: Rape, Death, Murder, War, and Child death
