Had to read this for my childrens lit class and I honestly think I’m just not the intended audience. It’s beautiful and the art twirl is very nice but it didn’t touch me like I had expected

Dragonfly Kites is the first ever book I have read from Tomson Highway, but I hope it won't be the last. This is an incredibly cute story, filled with the delights of childhood. I loved seeing the Cree translation provided (more books featuring indigenous languages please and thanks). Julie Flett's art is an absolute blessing, and I have never not loved her work.

Recommended for all ages.

Tomson Highway and Julie Flett! What a great combination! Well paced, bilingual book in English and Cree, telling the summer story of a pair of young boys. Flett's illustrations are clean and lovely, Highway's storytelling is beguiling.

Reminded me of growing up with my cousins, in an age without electronics. We would play with the land. Love that it is simple text, bilingual. Could be used for a storytelling.

Love the dragonflies! The child uses imagination to fly. There is independence and a different way of life. This book is written in both English and Cree.

A delightful tribute to the power of imagination and the relationship between two boys and the animal world around them.

It disproportionally bothered me that the two boys did not name the dragonflies, but came up with all kinds of names for their other "pets."

Compelling, engaging artwork by my new favorite Julie Flett! The narrative by Tomson Highway is simple (in a good way!) and evokes the sense of wonder many of us had as children when interacting with nature/animals. Written in Cree and English, this book could be used in a Dragonfly, kite, or nature-themed storytime; it would be especially great if both the English and Cree were read by fluent speakers so children could appreciate the beauty of both languages.
