Very well written with beautiful lyricism - envelopes you into the hot sticky Italian summer and the desperation felt by the main characters. Brutally honest. However I didn't particularly LIKE any of the characters

I did not like this! Perhaps Ferrante and I just don't get along, I didn't like the beloved "my brilliant friend" either. Every time I was intrigued and interested in this plot, there was some unnecessary, cringe, "c0ck sucking" line that ruined the vibe. Elena, you can't keep having these cool vintage book covers if you're gonna be writing slop. It's a trap.
overall enjoyed
a lot of good quotes and engaging, however nearish the end it did get slightly annoyingly repetitive, however that was kind of the point and contextually made sense
i liked how effective the writing was in making me feel olga’s emotions throughout the novel, and sense of entrapment/suffocation at certain parts of the story
a really interesting look into the character’s psyche and a great intro to elena ferrante’s writing, def interested to read more by her after reading this

I don’t know how to rate this right now. I loved it at first, but something happens that I hate… then it made it hard to like it much after. Would have been a 4…not sure if I need to take it to a 3 or not.
