This is a beautiful reimagining of Homer's Odyssey. There are some differences (and you'll want read the author's notes at the end of the story for more information). Even without knowing the original story you will find this one fascinating.
I love stories of damaged war heroes and Cheverley has had a lot happen to him in the 13 years that he has been gone - he was shipwrecked, held prisoner, lost and arm, washed up on shore and came home to find that he had been declared legally dead. In the meantime, his wife birthed a son and single-handedly managed their small estate into profitability.
The struggles he goes through are real and the reader can feel his pain and anguish in wondering if he should return to his family in his current condition. Penelope, his faithful wife is strong, independent and smart. She manages to run their estate and has now moved to his father's (the Duke) estate to try to save it from family that is trying to steal it away from her son, the heir.
The writing is amazing and the changes to Homer's tale only make the story more compelling.
If I had one complaint it is the cover - in the book Chev has pale blond hair but the cover model is dark haired. It also looks like he is wearing modern pants - a small complaint that really has nothing to do with the wonderful story inside.
