I loved the allusions to reality in this book: that girls and women do a lot of emotional labor caring for others! And just a very fun storyline and excellent heroine.

Genres: Paranormal Sci-Fi, Magical Realism
Ideal Reader: Grades 8-12 (Minor depictions of underage drinking, illegal substances, and some cursing)
A Printz Honor book about a girl scout-like organization who fights interdimensional monsters that feed on human emotions to keep the world safe. The paranormal elements in this book are so fun and wacky with a “pink punk” flavor. Tackles mental health, PTSD, and systemic discrimination and prejudice within all-female societies.

I just really could not get into this, and was contemplating DNFing anyway, when I started a new chapter on my Kindle, and the type went from prose to poetry layout. It was weird, and I’m just done. Too bad, because I loved the concept of the book. I just can’t bring myself to care enough to finish.

Look, they say not to judge a book by its cover, but this one is an exception. That cover artist 100% captured the vibe. This book is basically a pastel-punk version of season 7 Buffy, and it was heckin’ fun. I loved this weird world, and the characters, and the fact that it had substance in the mix. This book is a good time.

This was one of the most unique books I have read so far this year. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book but the description was so interesting I had to give this a chance and I am so glad I did.
The concept of a girl scout type group being a front for a magical organization that kills giant bug like creatures is everything! That alone is reason to pick up this book but if you need more this book has it all. The main character is amazing and I freaking adore her for her sarcastic comments and very real depiction of PTS and anxiety. The side character are amazing and I want them all to be my friends. Plus this book is packed full of action. This literally has it all. Please do yourself a favor and check this book out.
