I really liked this! I thought it had the perfect mix of pirate adventures and romance. I heard this book was slightly based on Pirates of the Caribbean, which I don't know anything about, but I still enjoyed this book.
Alosa was what really made Daughter of the Pirate King shine. She's tough, sassy, and brutal, and when she stages her own capture to get a chance to search for a special map, her problem is that she is almost too good. She has to pretend to be weaker than she really is as to not arouse suspicions--which she just hates. She struggles with wanting to prove to the men who've captured her that she's tough and capable, but she can't seem too capable or they'll be suspicious.
This is the second time I've had to stage my own capture. Ridiculous. It should not be this hard to stay captive on a pirate ship.
Although she's definitely an antihero and has murdered more than a few people, she is completely likable. She is also absolutely hilarious, especially in her encounters with Riden, the enemy's first mate and her love interest. And speaking of the romance, I thought it was great and I felt the chemistry between Alosa and Riden right away.
My only complaint is that I would have appreciated more world-building. We know very little about the world Alosa lives in. I know this is due largely to the fact that most of the book is set on a pirate ship, but still. And I thought it was really obvious that BUT I did not expect
I thought this book was really fun and addictive--the author's writing style is readable and compelling, and it's a pretty short book. Definitely pick this up if you get the chance!

This was okay. It was fast paced and action pack but I still found it lacking. There were some issues with pacing because even though there are action packed scenes there were parts that dragged and some moments that felt repetitive. The fight scenes are pretty good. I get what the author was going for with Alosa, wanting her to be this badass pirate, but she did feel kind of mary sue-esque to me and also felt a bit bland. I didn't really feel connected to any of the characters so I didn't really care about the eventual romance or the conflict that was going on. Because Alosa is such a badass with these special abilities the stakes that were there didn't feel very high because I knew she'd be able to get out of it. I found Riden boring and since I didn't feel a connection with him I didn't really care about his relationship with Alosa or his brother or his motivations or his tragic backstory. The world building wasn't bad, I just feel it could have been a bit stronger. Overall, this was an okay read.

I didn’t like this book at first because of some of the words that the author used annoyed me for example “lass” was repeated. And some of the ways the author wrote was a little old fashioned. This did work well though in the story. However with that said I really liked this book. It was refreshing to read a different type of story that was still so interesting and had bits of romance in it. Definitely say it’s for 14 and up though because of some of the things you have to understand.
