While this book was generally entertaining, there were a few aspects that got on my nerves:

+ Dru (MC) is a "Pick Me Girl"
I don't know if you've ever see Hannah Montoya's reels, but Dru is 100% a "Pick Me Girl". She's just one of the guys, yo.

All of the men are constantly telling her how amazing she is, and how she's the only one they need because she's so amazing, and how she'd be pretty if she'd just get rid of the dirt. And Dru feeds into this. She had one line in particular that got to me:

"Most of the lasses hadn’t understood my relationship with the men. Hell, even I was astounded by it at times."

Other girls don't understand having guy friends. She's different because she curses at the men all the time. And she doesn't need any saving even when she's literally dying.

That sounds petty – and it is – but it really grated on my nerves. (Also, can we get past this idea that you can't ever be saved, ever?? If you're in a life-or-death situation and someone comes along to help there's nothing wrong with letting them help)

But that's not the only thing about Dru that tested my patience.

+ How Dru describes other women bothers me
This book is told in first person, so we get to see the inside of Dru’s head and what she thinks about others. And when she describes the other women… she always focuses on the size of their boobs. And that’s their only personality trait BTW. Oh – and that they’re interested in Dru’s love interest and therefor a threat and HOW COULD SHE COMPETE WITH A SMALL CHEST *insert eye roll*

It felt like the author was trying to show how much better Dru was through these other women and it sucked. At least give them a personality.

+ THIS LINE KILLED ME:

"'How long has it been?' Dodge asked. 'How long since you've been inside D'Land's castle walls?'

'Too long–and then again, maybe not long enough.' I blew out a breath I had not realized I'd been holding."

THIS DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE. It wasn't a tense moment. It was out of nowhere. I can't stand this line. Please let it die.

+ Look...I have to give the author credit for the love triangle. For the most part, she's pretty good at showing how torn Dru is, and why both of them are good options.

HOWEVER. One of them spent the first half of the book being a possessive, quick-to-anger, growling asshole. And the second half the other one turned into a kinda manipulative guy (I'm conflicted).

Overall: Entertaining enough, but I win't be continuing the series.
