This story was heartbreaking at times and I really felt for the characters. I wouldn't say it was my favourite ever read and I definitely preferred the 1st book in the series but it was still enjoyable. Some of the time jumps got a bit confusing for me and it took me a while to catch up and figure it out. I would've loved an epologue, but a good ending nonetheless.

Mason Deserved Better

While Promise Me Not had moments of emotional depth, I struggled with the overall dynamic between the main characters. Mason was an incredible MMC—attentive, patient, and consistently trying to be there for Payton. He gave everything, and yet, it felt like he was constantly being pushed away.

Watching him try again and again, only to be met with emotional walls, was frustrating and honestly heartbreaking. Payton was clearly still grieving, but it felt like Mason was stuck in an impossible situation—competing with a ghost. Their connection didn’t get the payoff it deserved until the very end, and by that point, it felt a little too late.

Mason carried this story, but I wish he’d been given a partner who appreciated him sooner. This one just didn’t land for me the way I hoped.

I guess I just grew out of Meagans’s books?

Say you swear is one of my favorite books so I was anxiously waiting for the next book in the boys of Avix series. This is the story of Mason & Payton. Payton is learning how to not only be a single mom after her boyfriend passing away but also how to handle the grief of losing someone. Mason steps up not only to be support for Payton, but for Deaton too. We get to see these two in past and present and how their relationship unfolds through all the highs and lows.

I wanted to love love love this book like I did Say you Swear, but it just wasn't there for me. I liked it, but just didn't love it. There was a lot of push & pull between the main characters and sometimes I feel like it took me out of the story line especially with the two different timelines. Mason truthfully was the start of the show with this book, the way he stepped up for Payton was so sweet & his moments with Deaton were what saved the book for me.
