Very enjoyable read on Buddhism-lite, read with a grain of salt since, after all, it is by Chopra, who I find hard to take seriously after his shamelessly self-promoting performance on Chelsea Lately that night when I couldn't sleep...

not at all impressed. tezuka's version was far more compelling.

For lack of a better, non cliché word, this book was enlightening. It was interesting to read about fictional account of Buddha's life, from when he began as Siddhartha, morphed into Gautauma and then ultimately became the supreme being Buddha. The epilogue was one of my favorite parts of the book because it artfully tied this book together and gave me the basic Buddhist teachings to take from his life. While I tend to associate more with Buddha, I'd be interested in Chopra's account of Jesus. This book was good, very spiritual and thought provoking.

I think the title is a good indicator of whose tale is being told... but Chopra's way of telling said tale, is beautiful and very easy to follow. This story covers Siddhartha's journey through all three major periods of his life. Its written beautifully, as all of Chopra's novels are.

Since I know next to nothing about Buddhism, and even less about the Buddha, this was an entertaining introduction to his life, but real and reported.

Obviously, much of what is in the book is part of the Buddhist tradition, and may or may not have happened. That's why it's a fictionalized version of his life.

But in conjunction with Deepak Chopra's book about Jesus, these give a good idea of what the lives of several prophets may have been like.

Deepak Chopra should stick to inspirational speaking. I won't go so far as to say this book was awful. The ending was actually pretty good but the rest of it read like a trashy romance. I've never read any other books by Deepak Chopra so I'm not sure if it's just this book since it's written like a novel or if all his books are crap. I'm hoping it's just this one.

Honestly should have abandoned this book with how long it took me to read it. Interesting interpretation, but the writing itself was boring.

I enjoyed reading—in story format—the details of Buddha’s early life, subsequent departure from royalty, and his painstaking journey after that. My favorite part of BUDDHA: A STORY OF ENLIGHTENMENT came at the end when author Deepak Chopra articulates a user-friendly definition of what Buddhism is, and equally important what it is not.

Chopra's delivery of the story of the Buddha in a more linear fashion actually made the enlightenment much more understandable and approachable.
