I am absolutely stunned. I have been sitting here for about five minutes trying to figure out what I just read.
This is an absolutely brilliant story. It’s the darkest Agatha Christie novel that I have ever read, but that’s what makes it stand out.
I will say, the first two thirds of the novel are a bit of a slough to get through. Not much happens until page 171 out of 239 which means that Part 1 and most of Part 2 can drag. That’s why I’ve rated it lower than most other Agatha Christie novels - it was hard to get immersed into the story… until page 171, that is.
I think that everyone should read this, but it’s not a typical Agatha Christie. Endless Night is quite evil… something I felt from the beginning but did not understand until the end, which is something I certainly wasn’t expecting.

This was a miss for me. This story centers around Gipsy’s acre a plot of land with an ominous history. Michael Rogers is a man who wants riches but despises hard and steady work. To his great fortune a wealthy woman falls in love with him. She buys the property and builds Michael’s dream house. The couple is plagued by the ill-omens of the village’s old gipsy woman. Following the death of Michael’s wife, the search is on for the gipsy woman. This book is about 90% love story and slice of life. The death occurs very late in the book and then there is no real investigation that happens. We get thrown back into slice of life. Christie uses one of her more famous tricks in this “mystery”, but to very ill effect. The mystery element of this book is completely lacking for most of the novel. When mystery occurs, it’s given no time to breathe. So far this is my least favorite Christie novel. She wrote this in six weeks, and I feel like it shows. It’s a great idea but needed firmer editing to get us to the mystery faster. Ultimately, it’s good and short, but as a mystery it missed the mark.
3 out of 5

This one reads differently than some of her others, but it has a satisfying ending that I somehow did not see coming, even after reading 50 of Christie’s other mysteries.

Liked this a lot better than the last couple Poirots I read s2s

Struth. What do you say about an Agatha Christie book that her grandson (?) recommends as the best one to start with?

I really enjoyed it. I think if I was more au fait with crime genre and/or Christie styling then I would appreciate this one more, but even so, it is a great who dunnit.

I thought this story was pretty lame. I have loved almost everything I’ve read of Christie’s, but this book lacked the element of fun that makes her stories so enjoyable. It felt very macabre and a bit overdone. DNF
