3.5**
First, second, and third of all--I AM SHOOK! What is this book?! What did I just read?! How have I read like 5 Agatha Christie novels this month and still not see this twist coming? I truly had no idea. The last 45 pages were mad. I had to start the ending all over again to make sure I didn't miss something. Is this my fav. Christie novel? No. Is that the second best plot twist i've ever real? Heck. Yes. (First is [b:Fingersmith|8913370|Fingersmith|Sarah Waters|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1545241494l/8913370._SY75_.jpg|1014113] btw). I thought the first half was a bit boring and most unlike other works of hers but the end made it all worth it.

O no sé.
Aún así, he disfrutado mucho la lectura!

Not my favorite Agatha Christie but kept me interested enough

While their was, for me, an unexpected twist at the end, this book left me cold. I failed to engage with the main protagonist, despite the book having been written in the first person. This may be a reflection on the complete and utter coldness of the protagonist himself. He rarely, if ever, expresses any emotion so I'm open to the possibility that what I felt upon finishing was not a lack of connection to the character, but actually an indication of how well Christie can portray the cold-bloodedness of a deranged mind. Either way, I have never found a non-Poirot or Miss Marple as entertaining as one containing her most well-known characters and, I have to admit, skim-read large chunks of this book as I really wanted to get to the point of the story. However, this is not to say that 'Endless Night' isn't worth reading for Christie fans, you just have to keep an open mind to this different approach.

Endless Night is narrated in the first person by Michael Rogers, a carefree young man of the working class who has a history of skipping from one job to another. After meeting, falling in love and secretly marrying the American heiress Fenella (Ellie) Guteman, Michael moves into the house at Gypsy Acre along with his wife, brushing aside the foreboding warnings of the local gypsy woman. But maybe they shouldn't have dismissed the old woman so readily, because murder is soon an unwelcome guest at Gypsy Acre.

Agatha Christie departs from her usual style with this book, which has some definite gothic vibes to it. Though I largely prefer her usual style, I enjoyed reading this one too, with its sense of certain doom lingering in the background of what seemed like a happy love story in the beginning. The murder doesn't take place till about halfway through the book but that didn't make the story feel slow to me in the least.

What I was disappointed with was the ending. I felt she had recycled the conclusion from one of her other books (I won't say which to avoid spoilers) and though it turned out well with the previous book, it didn't work so well for this one, in my opinion anyway.
