Meh. It all felt very superficial. None of the relationships felt real, with the possible exception of Patch and Nick's friendship, and all the main characters just tried too hard to be likeable.

If it's not the Masons, it must be the Catholic Church... or perhaps it's ZOG... or, well, there has to be some secret society running things, right? Making lives smoother for members, amassing incredible wealth, etc.. Unfortunately, this book reads like Gossip Girl meets Skull and Bones, with maybe a little Frankie Landau-Banks thrown in. The references are a little too hip (by which I mean already almost out-of-date) and one character has a "headband screwed on a little too tight" (Blair, anyone?).

Still, it's good trash for YA readers.

total cotton candy. not good for you, not even as tasty in reality as you think it's going to be and totally insubstantial.

This is one of the best books i have ever read. I found myself not wanting it to end. before i had even read 100 pages of it i went online to see if there was a sequel i could buy. This book was so real, the mystery of it all just draws you in; with just enough romance to keep you reading but not make it a love story. Because this book is not a love story it is about The Society : the good, the bad, the ugly, and the truth.

I have mix feelings with this book. When I first saw it online it was like omaigaaaad a must! But now I've actually read it makes me wonder why do we fall for beautiful covers? That said, the good- interesting plot. Secret society that controls the world and the media (illuminati inspired I assume)
I can imagine it being made into a good movie like the I Am Number 4 (ridiculously slow book, amazing hot Alex pettyfier movie)
The bad - I can't think of it. Disappointed me in a way because I thought highly of it but now that I'm recalling the events on the book, its actually quite a good damn book.

Whoever decides to make this into a movie, expect virtual kisses

This reminded me of The Skulls (with Joshua Jackson and Paul Walker) and Gossip Girl (from the CW). It's about a group of high school students that receive an anonymous text to meet at a place and time, but that's it. It follows them as they enter a secret society and try to figure out what it's all about. Of course, these things are never what they seem, and people start showing up dead! This is a good suspense story, if that's what you are looking for, and it's a quick read.

Great new teen book by a very charming author! Secret society, rich NYC teens, fashion, and mystery. I read it on the plane ride home from NYC, so I loved the city references. Fans of Gossip Girl, Dan Brown books, and maybe older Harry Potter fans will enjoy this book. I smell a series...

Where to start, where to start! This book was a very painful experience. It was one of those books that started out somewhat okay, a three star book, that got progressively worse with every turn of the page. At first I took this book to be a Gossip Girl meets The Skulls kind of story and I was excited. I mean a book about snotty rich kids that are sucked into a dangerous world of secrets and lies and mystery and intrigue. Sadly that wasn't the case. With every turn of the page all I got was a lot of nothingness. These kids weren't snotty rich kids. They were annoying superficial brats that were completely self involved. Honestly I gave them the benefit of the doubt, well tried at least, but there was nothing there. I just don't know if that was poor character development of shoddy writing that made them this way. Cuz lets be honest...the writing sucked!

I said this as I was reading the book and I'll say it again...just because you are writing young adult books doesn't mean you should dumb it down for the reader. Dolby wrote this book like he was writing for people with a first grade reading level. I don't know if it was just his style or what, but I found it condescending and borderline offensive. Instead of getting into detail and developing certain relationships or situations more he stayed on the surface and left us with a bare bones story with no depth or emotion.

And the fact that this book is a series leaves me cold. I'll be passing on that and nothing else by this author. Please heed my warning and DON'T DO IT!

This book takes a really long time to get good. At about 200 pages in, I was asking myself if anything would happen and then finally it did. I only had two problems with it in general. 1 - It brings up more questions without really answering any (but I guess that's to get you to read the next one) 2 - The relationships progressed really fast. I didn't really get a sense of how the characters were feeling about one another, they just kind of randomly fell in love. All that being said, the concept is great, and I really am curious about many things, so all in all it was a little bit better than ok!
