hamilton fan fiction. i feel like rachel berry would’ve really been into this if it came out during season 1 of glee. i want to say it’s camp but it’s so not. i just don’t think musical theatre kids should ever get nice things.

Fairly standard YA romcom remake of Romeo and Juliet (pretty obvious, right?). More than just a remake, there's the meta aspect of the hip-hop version of R&J on Broadway that Jerzie is in, understudying Cinny as she plays Jewel to Zeppelin's Roman. Few surprises, but YA romance fans will enjoy the read and the new take on an old, old story.

This was real cute, even a bit too saccharine for me sometimes. The meta of the Romeo & Juliet musical theater adaptation was a delight. And I get the insta-love as a necessary element but it was too much for my twice-the-age-of-the-intended-audience heart. That's a me problem though. I think teens, especially musical theater teens, will be obsessed with this retelling.

Huge thank you to Turn the Pages Tours and Inkyard Press for sending me this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

this review is going to be a little short but i’ll have the full review up on my blog soon :)

I really wanted to like this book. I mean, the whole concept of it sounded so exciting when i first read the summary, which is why i was so excited to have gotten the arc for this book. Unfortunately, that excitement was short lived.

Personally, I felt that the summary was pretty misleading. I was expecting something completely different and while I didn’t totally hate what I got instead, I really wasn’t a huge fan.

I think the major reason for my rating would have to be the romance. It’s a book that has broadway as the backdrop so I was expecting a little bit more of a slow burn romance. I didn’t like the insta-love i was given instead. I mean yeah, i’m not a huge fan of that trope but if it’s not to annoying, i can usually get behind it. I couldn’t get behind this one. At all.

I liked the female lead in the first few chapters. But after the first few interactions with the love interest, i honestly felt exhausted reading about her. The fact that she basically declared him the love of her life within an hour of meeting him just seemed unrealistic to me. I didn’t really like the love interest either.

However, the side characters were great. I’m talking about Judas and Aunt Karla, obviously. Cinny and her repellant personality don’t exist in my mind. I also loved the Broadway references throughout the book and how passionately the main character talks about her love of the arts. I think that’s what really made the book for me.

I really wish I loved it though. There were just some stuff I couldn’t overlook.

This is a fun retelling of Romeo and Juliet with a modern twist. I really enjoyed reading this and I thought it was a cute and funny story. I love the diversity of the characters and how relatable they were. The musical/broadway aspect was fun and the romance between Jerzie and Zeppelin was very sweet. This was an enjoyable read and also makes me want to go to a Broadway play soon!

I loved this retelling of Romeo and Juliet...with a dash of Broadway Hip Hop thrown in. Diverse characters along with betrayal, first love, believing in yourself. The story didn’t focus solely on the Broadway aspect however the writer of the play was definitely a reflection of Lin Manuel Miranda...and it made me smile a lot!

I listened to the audio and the narrator did an awesome job with the voices and inflection. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of R&J!

I loved this book. Such a fun modern-day take on Romeo and Juliet. Jerzie has been cast as the understudy to the world famous Cinny in a Broadway production of Roman and Jewel, a new age Romeo and Juliet. When she meets the male lead Zepplin, everything becomes chaos. Crazy in love is an understatement. 4 stars for this one.

Broadway gets the Wattpad treatment in Roman and Jewel, and honestly? I'm here for it.

If you're a reader not into Broadway or fanfic esque stories, you may not like this at all. I, however, am a big fan of anything Broadway and also teenage love fluff, and this book checked alllll those boxes.

The story is one you've read before:
Spoilerthe average girl from the 'burbs goes to the big city, meets the perfect boy alive. Blue eyes, curly black hair, Tragic Backstory (TM)- this dude has it all. They fall in instalove, mean girl keeps them apart for 100 pages, dramarama, resolve and speedy redemption arc, and boom! Happily ever after!!

But on BROADWAY!! (sorry, I can't get over how great that is)

And it's Broadway done right! Instead of the horrendous [b:Roomies|34466910|Roomies|Christina Lauren|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1492478146l/34466910._SY75_.jpg|55586991], the author clearly understands and knows musical theater, from the references (Cabaret! Hailey Kilgore!), to the spaces (proper rehearsal timeline! at Studio 54!), and the way the cast acts. Which I really appreciated.

This book is for all the theater kids who want their wish-fulfillment fluffy romance. It's no masterpiece, But it's a whole lotta fun!!
