Assigned as part of my fourth grader’s curriculum. An inspiring story that touches on the high points, but I thought it was actually a bit easy for her level.

Reading this book brought back nostalgic memories from when we were studying Helen Keller's life back in high school.

This book was a hit when my mother was a teacher; it was a hit when I was a kid, and when I took it to my J2 class for my teacher to read and it's a hit with my own six-year-old daughter. The braille dots on the back cover are particularly popular. The prose makes for good reading-aloud.

Read specifically for the benefit of my 6yos. He rated 3 overall; he struggled with the chapter where Helen said “I’m not dumb now!” That’s a “bad” word, and although we talked about the literal meaning and how then she could talk, it seemed to make him uncomfortable and detracted from his overall enjoyment.
