Where should I start? I was really looking forward to reading this book, since the mix of genres alone gave me hope, but it all sort of fell flat on it’s face.

The good:
- There is lots of action to keep you going.
- The worldbuilding is intriguing.
- It’s a fantasy western!

The bad:
- The protagonist is insufferable.
- The angels are super lame.
- Many convos felt stale and forced.
- Women weren’t too well written.
- There was a questionable romance being built up which I hope to God the authors will drop, cause it’s just so wrong.
- Things about Crowley felt inconsistent (there was never a mention in the beginning that his eyes glowed during divination, yet later there is; he mentioned that he is glad there was no smell yet while other times he said he can’t smell and has no senses, another time that his senses are muted but he has them…).
- Things about the way the White Throne worked was not mysterious but pointlessly over-mystified. I get that the point was how “God works in mysterious ways”, but not giving your soldiers anything to go on and withholding extremely important info that can sabotage the mission is just plain stupid.
- The pacing was all over the place and felt really jerky.

I am sorely disappointed by this book, because this could have been so amazing, but it ended up being just a Dresden clone set in the Wild West with even worse writing and pacing. The only reason I even finished reading it was because I’ve already read half when I realized that this won’t get any better. And to my dismay, by the end it got even worse. The reason it gets at least this much, because I value the effort put into this and the creativity. But this will most likely be the first and last book I’ve read in the series and by these authors.
