Children of Time is an epic exploration of sentience and human nature. The prose is exceptional - communicative with moments of real beauty. The characters are instantly comprehensible and interesting. The book covers the excitement and danger of technology and manages to warn while still keeping an upbeat tone. The premise is unique and exquisitely delivered. Basically this is peak science fiction.

Sentient spiders and uploaded human consciousness in a story that spans 10,000+ years. I’m in.

The setup was interesting enough. Building that was enough for a while. But after that was established, there's not much character development going on here. The sentient spiders on the new world are more interesting than the humans. Lots of conflict & fighting with both the humans and the spiders. Started wondering if this was worth sticking with at 20%, gave up at 33%.
