One of my favorite books of all time. It’s the book that truly sparked my love of reading (as a child). Ellen Raskin truly wrote the perfect book.

The mystery itself is quite interesting but I couldn't help but be distracted by the confusing writing and the racist and ableist language used.

My stands-the-test-of-time run has run out.  The Westing Game, a favorite of past generations, has perhaps run its course. The plot is semi-solid: the mystery is deep, the premise of competeting to find a killer, and win the inheritance holds up.  It could be adapted into a fun limited series or movie, but so many of the characterizations are woefully outdated.  I loved this book as a kid, but kids today are going to be uncomfortable with the language, protrayl of women, Asians, and  the disabled.  Do not recommend for 2023.

This was a sweet little cozy murder mystery. I enjoyed reading it though I did figure out the plot twist very early (fair since this is middle grade). It does, however, suffer from a few issues like ableism.

The end was surprisingly melancholy and I was not expecting it.

Such a great book with a fun cast of characters. I feel like I definitely have to reread this book in the future to fully appreciate it enough, but it was so fun of a read.
