It's possible that I was the wrong audience for this book, as I am pretty squeamish when it comes to graphic descriptions of bodily injury, but the presentation of all these weird and whacky excerpts from the history of (western) medicine did little to keep me engaged. The brief sub-chapters were comprised mostly of verbatim citations of old medical journals peppered with the author's sometimes explanatory, usually quippy commentary. I found myself putting the book down every few sub-chapters, with nothing noteworthy really sticking to my mind (except for a few that no amount of mental purging could remove), and not really wanting to pick it up again. The only reason I powered through to finish the book was that the stories were so short that it wasn't difficult to get through them, even if it wasn't particularly enjoyable for me.
funny informative medium-paced

This is a fabulous book filled with examples of the medically wierd and wonderful from numerous historical journals. Highly recommended!
