I wanted to like this book. The writing style is unusual, it’s an interesting story, sort of. But it was like being stuck in a hotel room for days with someone who had a personality disorder. So uncomfortable to feel the increasingly creeping dislike, I couldn’t settle in to appreciate the writing.

This book was surprising!! A diaristic sort of autofiction that includes a murder trial, a script about Bigfoot and a lot of late night drives to New Orleans, but that's all kind of on the fringes. In total, its about a woman named Money who is doing her best.
My first book by this author. Yes, the wit is sharp-edged and I appreciate that -- in fact, that's what kept me reading to the end. But it's like reading someone's "therapy journal" -- a bit too stream-of-conciousness and lacking in plot for my tastes. There's some obvious structure and progression, but all those snippets just come off too fractured to be called a novel. (Checking the cover to be sure: yes, it is labeled "A Novel".)
I might come back to this but - just didn’t grab me
It's like when you shoot a gun, and an orange is sliced, because a knife sliced the orange, and there was no gun going off: it was just the pop pop pop of a Fanta can click, and there was never a gun nor an orange nor a knife, just a Fanta can amid a heatwave evening. Except it's about a neurotic woman named Money making do while not making do at all in (incomprehensibly) numbered fragments and intertitles.
