im honestly not sure how to rate this. i enjoyed it, as much as you can enjoy a book like this, however i had some problems with it. i think it was generally a bit simplistic and i personally don't like that the character of rudolf is definitely not a regular person. the book doesn't explore how the whole of germany got into this destructive collective mindset, it explores how rudolf, who was abnormally prone to following orders did not hesitate to execute any orders, not even ones of mass killings. the book wasn't a slow descent into what rudolf is capable of; we know it from the start that he has it in him and that he would do anything, literally anything if an authority would order him. that's not normal, that's not a regular nationalist german person. we know how he got here, it's because of his father but even there the book lacks because we never see it, we just see how he turned out, not the turning out. the whole book was kinda flat since the narrator is someone who has absolutely no emotions and honestly that makes it a little boring because there are no decisions made, we know what's gonna happen from the start, there is no inner turmoil about what's happening, it's very clear cut that everything is fine as long as it was an order.
i feel like this could have been so much more and it is a bit of a wasted opportunity but ultimately i still "enjoyed it" and think is an important book.

Četla jsem na doporučení kamarádky. Byla jsem překvapená, že se mi to líbilo. Obvykle tenhle typ knížek nevyhledávam.

بعضا فکر میکنم که اینجور کتاب‌ها که سعی میکنند ما را با جوانب سطح پایین‌ترو بعضا شاید انسانی‌تر دوره‌ی نازی در آلمان آشنا کنند خیلی بی‌خود اند. شاید نصف بیشتر کتاب اضافه بود. به نظر من همه‌ی کتاب می‌خواست به این پرسش پاسخ بدهد که یک فرد چگونه می‌تواند دست به چنین جنایاتی بزند، و متاسفانه منابعی که نویسندگان این سنخ کتاب‌ها دارند، بخش‌نامه‌ها، دستورات، و آمارها و سخنرانی‌هاست. برای رسیدن به پاس پرسش بالا، و قابل درک کردن چیزهای متفاوتی مورد نیاز است.

بود كه از لحاظ ترجمه خيلى وفادار نبود
و من هميشه آقاى شاملو رو براى شعرهاشون تحسين مى كردم
