Part of the African-American History series, this 48 page book introduces the topic of the civil rights movement in the US. It gives a little background on the Civil Rights movement, relates some of the history of slavery and discrimination, Brown vs. the Board of Education, some of the boycotts and other reactions to the unfair treatment of blacks, the impact of MLK Jr., and the legacy of the movement.
Some features include: primary source photographs and documents; multiple prompts and activity ideas for writing, reading, and critical thinking; charts, graphs, diagrams, timelines, maps, a glossary, an index, and some limited suggestions of resources for additional information.
