I was disappointed with this one. The concept of the story was what attracted me. A modern girl discovering the secret past of her family from a grandmother who has been hiding things for the past sixty years, it seemed awesome. However, I didn't really care for any of the characters and I hated how I felt like the author kept trying to teach me a bunch of life lessons. How to deal with illness in the family, arguments with siblings, sex, dealing with parents, racial injustice, world issues, the list goes on and on. Quite frankly, I got sick of it after the fist 150 pages. It didn't bother me at first but when the issues were just piling on I became bored. I stopped caring about the story and focusing on "oh my gosh how much more of this is there?" Also, the ending was disappointing. I thought there might be a big, loving, happy, tearful ending but it was a let down. The only reason I gave this one two stars was because I liked the story itself, but not much else.
