Liar (Madison Kate #2) by: Tate James
I don't usually gravitate towards danger, yet something inside encouraged me to give Liar a try. James pushes emotions to the limit. Unpredictable turns into hard to put down. From maybe to absolutely, Tate James knows how to deliver breathless.View all my reviews

4.5/5
This one isn’t as good as the first but I still love it! I’m still slightly confused with different aspects of this gang world but I guess since it’s in MKs POV she’s still technically confused as well. I love that we got more Kody in this book! He is my absolute fav followed by Steele. Archer was just a dick in this book per usual and almost wasn’t there it seemed or atleast was outshined by the other two. This one is way spicier than the first in terms of smut but not really sexual tension which I tend to like more at times. I definitely can’t wait to read the next one and see how all this crazy shit goes down! I need more of the boys being gang bangers and more of Archer fighting bc that was low key hot. I can’t wait to see archer turn into a simp like the others too. We did get alittle preview there of sweet archer but in true archer fashion he turned super cold soon after.

Honestly, they said let's throw every single trope in the mix for this series. Do I hate it? Surprisingly, no. Not sure if I'll say that it works, but I can say I didn't hate it. I was certainly caught into the story, with sudden plot that seemed to hold a bigger story than I would've imagined it to carry me on.
And the ending? The ENDING? I hate that for some reason, by the time I finished this book, just when I least expected it, I couldn't wait to open the third book.

Rating this series as a whole:
Love me some, all parties included, reverse harem. I appreciated how each character was their own but still they progressed together.
One annoying thing with mafia romance is when the MFC be acting a damn fool and whiney... Kills it for me. This series, she be stepping up to that badassery. Realistic in the end with her requiring help to cope with their actions, but I appreciated that being skimmed through.
The plot was loose at best, but it was enough to hold the smut together. And to build the scenes up. Some plot was forced through though and you can feel it as a reader. To get to my point, smut drove me to finish this series vs the actual plot itself.
What I didn't enjoy about this series was how juvenile they were/acted despite their age and transgressions. It was annoying and kind of took me out of the world the author was building.
All in all, I felt it was a good, fun read with some hot scenes that I'll keep fresh with me. A bit of a thriller with edge of seat who-done-it mysteriousness that propelled the series along.

Liar picks up right where the first book Hate left off. MK’s stalker is still at large and has upped his game going so far to threaten people MK cares about. The police, MK and the guys still have no luck finding the stalker and now, there is someone who wants MK dead. Are they the same person or different? There are many secrets being kept and MK doesn’t know who to trust, who is lying, and who may have any ulterior motives but she needs the guys around for protection to keep her safe.
The heat and spice picked up in this one with Kody and Steele.

Archer D'Ath has me in a mf chokehold and has since the first book.
When my book bestie turned me on to this series she was telling me all about the boys and how Max Steele was IT!
So, I dove in thinking Max would be my guy; the one I clung to throughout the entire series as my favorite.
Then I met Archer.
I don't do the macho, brooding, dick shit with guys and honestly, I'd antagonize the shit out of him too just like MK does..... just to get him riled up.
I'd find it exceedingly funny to get under his skin and I would push back at every single opportunity.
But there is just something about him that I can't put my finger on with him.
I had a bonus chapter/material in my book and it was from Archer's POV of what happened to MK at the after party.
I was given a glimpse of the softer, more tender side of him and that made me love him even more.
He's still a dick, and MK holds her own with him (which I love), but she has only seen glimpses or flashes here and there of who he is when he isn't having to be bodyguard, etc. I think once she finally meets that side of him she is going to fall for him!
Kody + Steele are great characters too.
And that threesome scene........ HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
Now, if Arch + MK would actually talk about and acknowledge their feelings for one another... then the story could progress and stop with all the emotional, sexually frustrated whiplash between them.
Speaking of acknowledging things..... P L O T !
I love a good intense story that keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing, but this one is pulling in multiple directions.
It's hard to keep track.
She has a stalker.
But she also has someone trying to kill her.
The stalker isn't trying to kill her. In fact, he even saved her.
And the stalker is someone who also apparently stalked her mom, but then transferred feelings to her.
So where does the killer fit in?
Then you have the secret Archer is holding as well as the love square between all four of them.
There is enough going on with JUST THE STALKER, THE SECRET + LOVE SQUARE, why throw in a more convoluted storyline by adding in another bad guy or multiple other bad guys?!
Other than that little issue, I think Liar was a great, quick read. TJ really amped up both the spice + drama in this book compared to the first one and I'm excited to dive into the third one!
