Liar (Madison Kate #2) by: Tate James

I don't usually gravitate towards danger, yet something inside encouraged me to give Liar a try. James pushes emotions to the limit. Unpredictable turns into hard to put down. From maybe to absolutely, Tate James knows how to deliver breathless.View all my reviews

4.5*

What just happened?

Liar was a solid second book in my opinion.
I really liked the easy and yet dark vibe : it’s a dark reverse harem yet it reads quite fast.
I really enjoyed the dynamic with the boys in this second books : MK is starting to trust them more and it makes for more romantic and sexy interactions.
That cliffhanger and plot twist was once again not expected and I think it will make for a good plot in book 3.

If I could leave 0 stars. IT WOULD STILL BE TOO HIGH A RATING.

Do NOT buy this series. The absolute worst cast of characters.
Our “bad boy” is a toxic, psycho, misogynistic, PIG. He has no redeemable qualities at all.
Our FMC is the most infuriating and annoying human being I’ve ever read about.
The other two male characters are forgettable and as interesting as a piece of cardboard.

The dialogue is unrealistic as HELL for supposed big, scary, MMA fighting gang members. They talk like 16 year old boys who have never been outside in the sun ever in their lives.

They have the backbone of snakes and the morals of a ROCK. Literally the most forgettable and pathetic love interests I’ve ever seen. I’m SO sorry, I tried to give this book the benefit of the doubt but it’s just plain bad.

You could read the first and last chapter of the book and have the whole story. Those are the only important chapters. The rest of the book is utterly useless. NOTHING happens. There is no new clues, no character development, no longing, no mystery. Just a bunch of random scenes and ammunition to hate these character's even more.

The plot is lost and muddy and makes no sense. I don't care about any of these characters anymore. I almost want the stalker to get Madison Kate so that SOMETHING will happen.

The spicy scenes are so bad. They are added for no reason and are always cringe and unbearable to read.

I find it fascinating how characters that were written to be together have no chemistry at all.

oof. okay. I may be really harsh but I spent money on these books and will have to return them.

I don't know what happened that led these books to be this bad, and I wonder if maybe this was this authors first series.. I don't know.
The misogyny alone is revolting. The way MK is treated is just gross. She is giving pick me behavior as well.

All in all, I don't want to shit on the author because I think this book could have had potential and maybe Tate's heart just wasn't in it, but I've always heard good things about her other books so I have to believe this was just a fluke.

My realistic rating is a 0/5

3.5 stars. It’s reeling me in, had to start the next one at 3 am.
