Excellent character-driven novel. Amsterdam is the perfect backdrop for this journey to self-discovery. http://thewellreadredhead.blogspot.com/2012/11/giveaway-and-review-light-of-amsterdam.html

This was absolutely tedious to read!! The only thing that held me back from rating it 4/4.5 stars was how irrelevantly descriptive it was which led it to being so draggy and almost boring. And there were parts of the novel where I had no clue on where the plot is heading to?

Everyone in this book was neurotic and over wrought. The writing was very lovely but the characters were unlikable.

The ending was also over wrought. It just wasn't a book that merited a big literary twist, in my opinion.

Couldn't put it down, have read quite a few David Park books and really enjoyed them all! Surprised that the reviews aren't as glowing. My view is probably slightly different coming from, and identifying with, the areas and people he talks about in and around Belfast. Definitely worth a read though wherever you're from!
