I started this book and then ended up concurrently watching the Netflix series with my husband and I have to say this is one of the few times I'll ever admit that the Netflix show was much better than the book.

The most fascinating part of this story to me was the cultural revolution in China, and it was actually the part where I felt that the characters were the most human. Ironically, being attacked by aliens and being transported into a mad world where three suns are constantly killing off the planet you're currently on via VR headset does not seem to elicit much of a human response from the character Wang. And that was the entire problem I had with this book where for most of it our characters, outside of a few like Da Shi who I would have loved to read more about.

Honestly, I was quite disappointed by the book when watching the show at the same time. I feel like things were just much better explained and the characters were not as lifeless when translated on screen. Or maybe this book really just wasn't for me. I don't think I'll be picking up the sequel.

Hry by mohlo být víc. A ekoteroristická zápletka, ač měla být asi jedním ze silných momentů, působila nuceně a hloupě. Postavy ovšem byly nejhorší - k uzoufání ploché.

It is interesting to read a sci fi book written from a different language and perspective. It is definitely heavy into the science and physics behind the concepts and these can be hard to grasp at times. However these concepts do not overpower the book and are written well for a lay person. The story and premise is interesting and fairly novel and the basis of the story behind it is well done. Am interested to see where the story goes but unsure whether the subsequent books will have the novelty to carry it.
