I was not expecting to enjoy this novel as much as I did! At first, I was not very into the relationship between Henry and Clare since she was a child throughout the beginning of it. Once the extent of the situation was clear, it made the story a lot better and enjoyable. I really loved watching the characters grow and the timelines coming together as you got further into the book. I shared tears and laughter with all the characters.

I think this is a super cool concept and I did really enjoy this book overall but I thought in practice it was way too long and included a lot of filler stuff that wasn’t super important to the overall story.
The characters are also not super fleshed out - I feel like Clare’s whole personality is loving Henry, but then he has been her whole life I suppose. I did like the romance though, and I teared up at Henry’s letter at the end. But at the same time, there is a bit of over reliance on the fact that they already know each other and we aren’t really shown why they love each other I feel?
I watched the tv show for this a few years ago and I liked that more I think! I wish we got more. I also heard that the author is writing a sequel about their daughter which I am intrigued by but 1) as far as I can see, nothing has been said about it in a while and it was meant to come out in 2023 and 2) sounds like an Outlander rip off.
Spoilers here!! Also there is a lot of discussion about adult Henry visiting child Clare (and I agree that felt weird) but nobody talks about Gomez and I thought he was such a weirdo!!! Why is nobody bothered about him cheating on his wife - not even his wife!!! And WHAT was that scene at the end?! That made me feel so uncomfortable. I was probably making disgusted faces on the train.
