Antisemitism, resounding cliches, and bad vibes. I read some of the reviews for this book to see if I was just seeing things but many reviewers warned of Islamaphobia, continued ignorance towards Rabbis, and the on-page gang rape of the ONLY LESBIAN PROTAG. I'm not reading that shit, I got too much life to live.

A good old-fashioned horror book in the Stephen King vein. Fun schlocky plot, likeable characters and a genuinely tense plot. I removed a star, however, for the book's depiction of women. Like King, Wilson has trouble writing women realistically. I lost count of the number of times women's nipples were mentioned. The main male character is stripped of his clothes at one point, but male nudity is never objectified in the same way. He has 2 great female characters, but they're often reduced down to their body parts and there's a gang rape (which isn't dwelt on in much detail fortunately) that the female character it happens to largely brushes off- no trauma here folks.

I listened to this on Audible. The narrator was FANTASTIC- one of the best I’ve heard. The book, however, is a different story.

I read this because I loved the show. It is literally NOTHING like it so don’t even bother to give it a try
The first part was great- the plot & characters kept me going. Super heavy on Catholicism, but had an amazing Rabbi character. The second half felt like it was an excuse to be misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, and when they got to New York City it became  SUPER islamophobic. There’s also a graphic gangr*pe not imperative to the plot.
