I thought this one had a unique premise - a combination of 1984 and Miss Peregrines. Would definitely recommend to YA and Adult readers.

Real rating, 3.75.
Bottom line:
A well crafted cost fantasy, and while I've read others similar books lately I still enjoyed the characters and world building plus MOM LGBTQ representation that was handled beautifully.
This book received huge amounts of hype when it was first published and I can understand why. It is considered to be the first cozy fantasy book out which started that trend we're seeing in the past few years. However, For better or for worse, I've read a few other cozy fantasy books before this one. That means that although I did very much enjoy the characters and worldbuilding, I'm just not stunned by it.
The upside of this story in my eyes is that it deals with themes such as loneliness, isolation, fighting for justice and protecting others in a very endearing way. The banter between both magical creatures and non magical (hail Helen!) was absolutely delicious and made me smile several times. It also clearly contrasted with Lioness's grey and dull bureaucratic which was portrayed almost comically.
I also thoroughly laughed through the dialogues between Lioness and his elderly obnoxious neighbor. We all need to feel protected and at home in our lives whether in a physical location or in the arms of a loved one, while taking some adventures and popping our bubbles. I loved the narration of this story by David H, and though this was a very sweet story, the hype may be a bit excess. Either way, Kudos TJ Klune!

5 stelle non bastano neanche questa volta per l'ennesimo capolavoro di Klune.
Ho acquistato il libro all'uscita, come faccio sempre, del resto, per ogni suo romanzo.
Come con altre opere di Klune, non l'ho letto subito. Il mio cuore per essere tranquillo deve sapere che ho sempre un romanzo di questo fantastico autore da leggere, perché al momento giusto, quando ne ho assoluto bisogno, eccolo pronto a ricaricarmi di energie o a risollevarmi... proprio come farebbe una fenice che dalle sue ceneri risorge.
Ebbene, era arrivato il momento di questo gioiello e, pur riconoscendo molte cose di lui tra queste righe, l'autore è riuscito a sorprendermi.
Una storia diversa dalle altre lette, delicata ma coinvolgente, talmente densa di bellissimi passaggi da aver perso il conto di quanti ne ho sottolineati:
"Se ti metti in ascolto, sentirai una quantità di cose che nemmeno sapevi esistessero".
Linus l'ho amato dal primo secondo. Mi ha fatto un'incredibile tenerezza, mi ha fatto ridere (mi ha ricordato per alcuni versi Paul Auster della sua serie "amore a prima vista") e l'ho trovato così umano, così reale, così "speciale".
Dopo qualche capitolo ero in piena adorazione del libro e in un secondo ho amato tutti gli altri personaggi: il piccolo Lucy (assolutamente delizioso e divertente, ma anche struggente) e tutti gli altri bellissimi "bambini": Talia, Phee, Sal, Chaucney, Theodore (voglio un Theodore vi prego!).
Amato tanto anche Zoe, ovviamente e, beh, Arthur Parnassus. Come non amare Arthur? Come non adorare la sua storia, come non desiderare di ritrovarmi anche io sotto le "ali protettrici" di questo direttore così eclettico e fuori dal comune?
"Vorresti essere lì?"
È una frase che Linus si ripete di continuo e sì, vorrei essere lì con tutti loro, così come, dopo aver letto la serie Green Creek, ho sempre voluto far parte del branco Bennett.
Klune ha questa magia particolare: in ogni suo libro, che sia fantasy/allegorico come questo, che sia urban fantasy, che sia romance o sci-fi, lui riesce sempre a farmi desiderare di trascorrere del tempo al fianco dei suoi personaggi e far parte delle famiglie più strampalate, eterogenee e meravigliose di cui abbia mai letto.
A 55 anni suonati riesce a farmi piangere, ridere e appassionare ogni volta e con quest'opera lo ha fatto con un'incredibile delicatezza: come una piuma che ti accarezza il volto sprigionando un calore immenso che ti riscalda anima e cuore.
Grazie T.J. Klune, davvero grazie.
