I saw most of the twists coming but there was one in particular that got me good.
I enjoyed the cult aspects and the storytelling style
but I do not understand the narrative device of
Henry's narration. He is writing to Libby yet he is mentions the lies he told her at the end. And I couldn't tell if it was a journal or what the framing of it was.
I was enjoying it up until around 80ish% when we find out
Henry has been lying about most things.
While I figured that was the case, I didn't like the extent to what it was,
and hate the fact that the villain is a predatory gay man. That is an overdone and harmful trope and the fact that Henry assaults and harasses Phin and how that is the source of the conflict is gross.
It's a shame because before that, I would have rated it MUCH higher. After reading the description of the next book, I don't think I will continue with the sequel. I don't really care for that mystery to be solved knowing who did it.

This is my first Lisa Jewell's book, and I kind of like it. I started reading thinking of immersing myself in a mystery adventure; however, I stumbled upon a twisted family drama. It had all of the elements that made up a good book with even some extra spices. It was a mysterious, tense and sad book.

On the other hand, as much as I like the book, there was too much filler for me. The creepy family was definitely twisted but predictable. I feel like the author didn't elaborate enough although there was already too much details. I started reading expecting a mysterious story but ended up getting into too much of a family drama to the point I felt like the mystery wasn't a main part of the story anymore. If this was the case, then I expected to see some psychological thriller aspects, but it there was not much of this as well. Therefore, I felt the story was a bit flat.

All in all, it was a nice journey with the book, and I will keep reading more Lisa Jewell's books to see if there would be any better books than this one.

I was fully vested in Libby and Lucy and their journeys. I enjoyed Henry’s narrative and was eager to hear what happened next. It was a great book I’d recommend to others, especially if you like books with multiple narrators, a non-linear story, and a few good twists.
