I liked the fantasy aspects of Master of Crows a lot. That aspect of the book deserves 4 stars. It really drew me in, but the sex almost killed it for me. It wasn't really the number of times they had sex, it was just way too much description for me. I don't mind romantic, sexy, seductive, or even sensual, but there is a point where it just becomes crude and over the top.

I don't know why authors feel the need to put such over the top descriptions into sex scenes. In my opinion it just ends up coming off as really cheesy, and some of the things described just weren't sexy at all. At one point he is "gasping harder than a winded horse." That’s really just not a sexy way to describe anything. I suppose there are plenty of readers who love this stuff but those types of scenes just take me right out of the story.

Like I said, the fantasy aspects of this story were very good. I liked the world and the setting with the orange grove. I liked the battle Silhara had within himself with the god Corruption. I even liked the romance aspect of it and how their feelings for each other built. I would have liked to have delved deeper into who they each were and their pasts and gone on a few more adventures. We got a little back story on the characters, just not enough for me. I think if some of the sex had been left to the imagination we would have had time to go there.

Wow, I do think Grace Draven is a powerhouse where romance is concerned. She made me feel giddy butterflies, the steamy moments, and longing. The ending satisfied that longing, making me cry and then jump with joy 🫶

the romance is a bit slow burn, but the plot is paced weirdly. the writing is phenomenal.

I fell in love with Grace Draven's Wraith King Series earlier in the year and finally got around to trying this series. I enjoyed this one just as much. MoC has an interesting and somewhat complex fantasy world that is balanced perfectly with a romantic aspect. Martise was my favorite from the opening scenes; she has a quiet but strong personality. Silhara grew on me by the closing, although he was such a hard character to like in the beginning. I cannot wait to read the follow up book. Grace Draven has quickly become a favorite in this genre.

"Monsters are just as vulnerable as men."
