Too dark for me. My mistake: I did not research this before I borrowed it from the library, I just added it to my list because the synopsis sounded amazing. Then I started reading, and the first two chapters were so dark that I did what I should have done in the first place…I came to Goodreads to look at reviews and content warnings. And OMG there were all the warnings I expected, based only off the first 2 chapters, and they kept going. Out of respect for the author and the fact that I only read 3% of the book before shelving it as DNF, I’m not going to rate the book, but I’m grateful that I didn’t spend more time in that headspace.

Soy fan de esta autora, sus sagas de fantasía las devoré así que esperaba con ganas esta novela fuera del grishaverso y del young adult. Empezaré diciendo que la he leído en inglés, idioma original del libro, y no es un libro fácil para leer en inglés, eso y que los primeros capítulos son algo confusos presentando contextos y personajes hicieron que me costase unos cuantos capítulos entrar y pensé que igual no me iba a gustar mucho, pero no podía estar más equivocada. Una vez que me situé en el mundo universitario donde se mueve el libro y que empecé a conocer bien a la protagonista, no pude parar de leer. La ambientación en Yale mola mucho y es ideal para una trama de magia oscura y asesinatos. El desenlace es trepidante y con varios giros y me ha mantenido literalmente pegada a mi Kindle las últimas ciento y pico páginas. Si os mola la pluma de Bardugo dadle una oportunidad a este.

SUCH a good storyline! That twist ending with Daisy was amazing. I was all for expecting the Dean but DAMN.
The world was so packed with interesting things. I loved this world. I'd be interested to know more about each house and their worlds, and about the wheelspinners! I can't wait to read the next one!

Has all the things you want from 'modern fantasy' in that it's gripping, intriguing and just a little bit edgy. Plays with tropes but never lets them gain ownership over the story. Cool characters, good set up for future stories. Real page-turner.
