The dialog could've matched the characters a bit better in some places, but bridges the gap between movies without forcing its way into the timeline, and carefully incorporates elements to mesh with the books and movies that came before and after.

A very 90s read. But, it was fast paced and fun, so I got through it quickly and with enjoyment. It's also the first book I've managed to finish in a while so that made me happy. Some weird sex slavey stuff but altogether good, I love reading about Luke & we got to see bits of him making his ROTJ lightsaber !
This was more entertaining than I expected, but the overly frequent POV switches made it feel rather choppy.
Also if we were supposed to find Xizor threatening, then the book rather missed the mark since I spent every moment he was 'onscreen' cackling at his inflated opinion of himself and awaiting the moment he'd find himself crushed by one Skywalker or another.
Still, it's a thoroughly enjoyable book.

Trip back to the 90s when I played the Shadows of the Empire game on my Nintendo 64. Swoop bikes, Black Sun, and the insufferable Dash Rendar. Silly Star Wars fun!

An excellent connection between ESB and ROTJ. It follows all of our favorite SW movie characters, and Dash Rendar is wonderfully fleshed out. It is a convincing plot that explains in exquisite detail exactly how Luke, Leia, Lando, & Chewie figure out where Han is, where Luke's new lightsaber comes from, and how they plan to set Han free. A good, action-oreinted book.

Read it ages ago.
**SPOILERS**
One of my favorite scenes that sticks out in my mind involves soup or something made by Lando that Luke thinks tastes like a boot and then Leia actually says it tastes like a book and Luke laughs or something along those lines. It was like a twin moment without it being a twin moment.

This is pretty much a must for any fan of Star Wars. It fits in nicely between Empire and Return. I loved Xizor and was pretty sad that I won't be seeing him in anymore books but he was an awesome character.
