WHY IN THE ACTUAL FUCK ARENT THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN THIS? AS IF I GIVE A FUCK ABOUT KALE BEING IN A WHEELCHAIR. TELL HIM GROW A PAIR THEN. Everyone on tiktok told me NOT TO SKIP IT. I skipped it. AND I DONT GIVE A FUCKKKKK. I HATE HIM. I just told chatgpt to spoil it. As if I wanna read 700 pages about lettuce crying cuz he can’t use his legs. You weren’t needed anyways. 1 star

This book felt like it took forever. There were parts that I thoroughly enjoyed, but I didn’t feel excited by the book until the last 20 to 30 pages. I almost feel like I could’ve read the big plot points elsewhere and then just started kingdom of Ash.
But I don’t mind having read it and I  did enjoy getting to know these side characters better hence the 3.5 star rating!

Dannnng. So much valuable info gained!

My GOD this was a slog. I read this at the same time as Empire or Storms and THANK TODD I DID because I would have killed myself if I got to the end of Empire and had to through 697 pages of character development for a character I didn’t really care about. Also, why doesn’t SJM want to write a full proposal and wedding scene? She’s done secret marriages three fucking times now. Feyre and rhysand, Rowan and Aelin and now yrene and chaol. JUST WRITE IT ORGANICALLY SARAH DONT TELL ME SBOUT IT IN RETROSPECT

4 ⭐️ I enjoyed this book overall, but I had a difficult time getting into it and following along at parts. It was hard being dropped into a new continent with a completely different political landscape, language, animals, and customs this far into the series - especially since I don’t think the book as whole did much to move the plot forward. The storyline could have been significantly condensed without affecting the key takeaways and plot reveals. I really enjoyed Chaol’s storyline and was happy to reunite with Yrene, but did not care for Nesryn’s POVs as much. I had to skim a few of her chapters because I was so caught up in all of the new terminology that was being introduced. Fortunately my disdain for Chaol has been cured and I’m excited to see his story arc in Kingdom of Ash. He’s much more likable now that he’s in a relationship that’s better suited for him. Overall I’m glad I did the tandem read, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The murder mystery and romance heavy plot lines were a nice reprieve to the action packed Empire of Storms.

I really enjoyed this. I don’t get why Chaol gets so much hate - his story in this book shows so much growth. Yrene is a nice addition to the story! Never actually warmed up to Nesryn, but the backstories she encounters on her journey are cool.
