Whenever you feel the urge for a book about a band of brothers, look no further. Love all the characters and the bonds they create with each other. The plot moves a little fast at times, but by the end it is appreciated.

The book is very good. The pace is constant and quite slow. I would appreciated more gradation towards the end of the book. The story and writing style are catchy and enjoyable. It is almost 5 Star read for me.
so I hesitated whether to give it 4.5 or 5 stars. Basically, I don't have much to criticize, so I'm giving it 5 stars, but I don't really get a "wow" feeling from the book. I think it's because the whole book is kind of always at the same pace and the plot doesn't progress. There are some boring parts in the book, but I didn't mind those either and it was a good read.
Anyway, I really liked the main character and I'm looking forward to the next parts. Everything is so real and believable and even though he has certain abilities compared to others, he didn't use them much in the book. The book begins with him being held captive for killing Hopeful - I was expecting some grand brawl there and lo and behold, it wasn't quite like that.
The whole book serves mostly to introduce the main character and the functioning of the world is lightly outlined. As for the Orders and Faith or magic/Dark Forces, unfortunately not much was explained there. I'd love to, but I'll wait and discover the fragments and put them together with Vélin in the next parts.

4.5/5 stars.
Blood Song did a lot of what I like about fantasy, and did it right. There are a few things I could nitpick in this book- spelling and sentence structure here and there, loss of focus at a few points, spots where plot lines end abruptly- but they are overshadowed by what was done right.
The world was real. Things worked. People and places and things all interacted with each other the way they do in the real world. The magic was never fully explained, and things popped in and out of the story much the same way they do in real life. The main character was competent and struggled to get where he was, had priorities, and didn't make *explicitly* dumb decisions. These are all things that I love.
I liked this book very much, and strongly recommend it to any interested in a more filled out 'Name of the Wind'-esque coming of age story.
Most likely will read again.
