4.5 ⭐️. A quiet, solemn book that discusses unrepresented history.

I loved this short and sweet historical fiction taking place in 1980s Ireland around Christmas time

Short but oh so mighty. This book shone a bright light on ordinary, persistent kindness in the “real” world of survival. Bill’s kindness and seemingly tiny decision to help is somehow a simple yet immensely profound and meaningful act. A quiet, short tale that speaks volumes.

Keegan said so much with so little. She expertly picked her words to convey heavy emotions in everyday happenings. Excellent writing and a bittersweet delight to read.

Loved the premise and how concise it was. Did not stray off message, but still gave interesting loose ends that I want to further research. I'll read more of Keegan.

As an English teacher, I love teaching with short stories, but I tend to find myself wanting when I encounter them as a reader. I would’ve liked to delve so much more into this story, but regardless of that, Keegan’s writing is solid and  I am anxious to see Cillian Murphy portray the protagonist in the upcoming film. I think he’ll be amazing.
