To start this review out on a positive note, Ever acts significantly less idiotic in this novel.

The Immortals series was never a top choice of mine. They were always on a lower half of a three-star rating for me, but they were nice, easy reads nonetheless. Evermore started out as a bit of a Twilight knock-off but eventually evolved itself into a series that stood its own ground. Alyson Noel thought out the series' mythology pretty well and offered the reader with topics such as reincarnation, magic, afterlives, etc. I never liked this series for the Ever/Damen relationship - it was the weakest part of the stories for me, and the we-can't-have-sex storyline is idiotic - but it was enjoyable to see Noel's ideals presented in a watered-down way for her young-adult audience.

That being said, Everlasting was my least favorite novel of the series. Like I said, this series was never a favorite of mine, but the simple good vs. evil conflicts and the petty, high school drama helped keep me engaged enough to finish these. This novel takes the series in a completely different direction, and what I didn't enjoy the most is the lack of any real conflict. In the past novels, we had a clear-cut, Ever vs. Roman and/or Ever vs. Haven conflict, but that ended in Night Star. Basically, this novel is a lot of reflection and discussion for the first seventy-five pages, a pilgrimage in the middle, and then more reflection and discussion to wrap it up. There wasn't a lot to keep me engaged in what was going on.

While I enjoyed that this ending wasn't just an ending for Ever and Damen but for many immortals as well, it still left something to be desired. Without really giving anything away, the ending kind of wraps the series around to where it began, and it just felt off. Maybe it was just too fairy-tale, everything's-perfect for me. When finishing a series, I like some spark of emotion (I was a basket case after finishing His Dark Materials), but I felt nothing when this ended.

If you've read all five books leading up to this, you obviously have to see how it ends. That's really the only reason I finished this; I just wanted to see what actually happens. Just don't expect too much out of it.

Oh, and can I say Alyson Noel writes the most awkward sex scenes ever? For the love of God.

Finally finished 6/6 of this series. My younger self's ridiculous aspiration is fulfilled and I am glad I never have to drag myself through this series of plot holes and unstable writing again. Maybe good time filling teen fiction, but nothing more in my eyes.

This series is such an up and down for me. Ever was annoying too often. And at some points it was just plain confusing. But somehow I still really enjoyed the series. It was such a good, unique story.

Okay, so I wouldn't even give it any stars, except there were two corny parts that I kind of liked.

Now, I know I may anger some people in saying this, but this was honestly one of the worst books I have ever read. Evermore was awesome. It was. It was something I had never read before, and it was extremely interesting. But from there.... every book has gotten progressively worse. 'Oh, we need to find the antidote' 'Oh we can't touch' 'Oh I love you and I want to do it with you but bummer I can't'
I felt like I was forced to sit inside someone's head, and that person was going slowly insane.
Like for instance:

Spoiler(**SPOILERS START HERE, look for stars for where they end**)

The whole bit where she has to find the tree is in the like, middle of the book. So you know everything is going to work out, because otherwise the book would just be stupid. And then to have everyone be kind of bipolar and stubborn 'Oh, I have the chance to live, oh I don't want to give this up, oh what will I do, oh, my aunt understands everything now, boo hoo, hurray, oh no, oh yay, happy ending, or sad things' and it just drove me insane.

******** End spoilers *********

But really I only read this last book because I was already 5 books in and I may as well read it even though you can pretty much predict what's going to happen. I mean, maybe other people like this, but it just dragged on a little too long. It also repeated things, over and over. I actually lightly underlined it in the book with a pencil so the next person can see how often it's said. And there are definite spelling mistakes scattered throughout.

But if you're 5 books in, read it. Finish it and be done.

Okay, so I finished this over a month ago but waited to review it. Let me first say, Thank you!!! I cannot portray the depth of my thanks that this series is FINALLY over. Seriously. I skimmed through books 3-5 waiting to see if the two main characters would ever reach the main goal of their relationship. Which I think sends out a bad message: love isn't good enough, you have to sleep with your partner. So, the reason for the four stars? Wish fulfilled, series over, and now I can move on to other suck-y series that I have to finish on principal.

I'd give it 3 and a half stars. It ended up just fine, but the beginning was slow for me.
